About

Hi. I'm Marcy.

I make greeting cards that do a little more than just sit there.

Pull-tabs, pop-ups, volvelles, hidden mechanisms — every card I make is designed around a small moment of surprise. A lever you pull. A wheel you spin. Two faces that meet when you open the cover. I like paper that does something when you hand it to someone.

Some of my cards are sweet. Some are cheeky. A few are decidedly grown-up. All of them are made because I think a piece of paper, opened by the right person, can be a small perfect thing.

How this works

Flat cards are printed on gorgeous cotton stock at a partner press and shipped direct to you — usually in a couple of days. They're my designs, just without the moving parts. Great for everyday occasions, bulk orders, and people who want to write inside without disassembling anything.

Handmade mechanical cards are made by me, one at a time, in small batches. I cut, score, glue, and assemble each one from the stack of paper on my desk. That means they take longer and cost more — but they do things flat cards can't. When you see "Handmade · limited," that's what you're getting.

A little about me

I live in Connecticut. I've been obsessed with movable books and paper engineering since I was a kid — the kind of person who took apart pop-up books to see how they worked. Velvet Unfold is where that obsession lives now.

Thanks for being here. If you want to see what I'm working on, I post a lot on Instagram.
