CARE GUIDE

CARING FOR A PAPER CARD WITH MOVING PARTS

Handmade mechanical cards are designed to last indefinitely if you treat them kindly. A few tips:

• Keep them dry. Water and paper have a known beef.

• Don't force stuck mechanisms. If a volvelle won't spin or a pull tab won't slide, it's usually paper dust. Gently work it back and forth and it'll loosen.

• Open and close them at a reasonable pace. The mechanisms are built for hundreds of uses, not thousands of rapid ones.

• Store flat, not folded past their design. If the card stands on a shelf, let it stand as designed — don't press it flat under something heavy.

• Pop-up cards are happiest stored open. If you're keeping one for display, leave it slightly open rather than fully flat.
